Rohtak: A university campus in Haryana witnessed protests due to a bizarre reason. They emerged after three sanitation workers of Rohtak’s Maharishi Dayanand University were allegedly asked to remove their clothes and have their private parts photographed so that it could be proved that the workers were having periods. The whole controversy emerged when the supervisor accused the women of working at an extremely steady pace. Now, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered and the university has also issued a statement.

What’s the alleged MDU case?

In Maharishi Dayanand University of Rohtak, as per the women, the two supervisors, Vinod and Vitendra, enquired about taking leave. At this, the women mentioned that they were menstruating, and the supervisors asked them to prove the same. The staff members stated that the supervisors guided a female worker to click photos of their sanitary pads. After denying their orders, the two women were allegedly abused.

What did the officials say?

Varsity Registrar KK Gupta mentioned that out of the two supervisors, one has “been placed under suspension with immediate effect with prejudice to the pending disciplinary proceedings against him”. Adding to this, he said, “We will investigate the entire incident. Whoever is found guilty will not be spared. If required, a case will also be registered against the accused officers under the SC/ST Act.”

FIR and the University’s statement

According to the Station House Officer at PGIMS police station Roshan Lal, “A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the two supervisors. The FIR includes charges under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for sexual harassment, assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe and outrage a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, and acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman”, as reported by the India(BHARAT)n Express.

It further reported that the university gave a statement highlighting that any incident of workspace insecurity will remain untolerated and highlighted its dedication to providing a safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive workspace environment.
