‘Hindu Lives Matter’: British Hindus organised protest outside Bangladeshi High Commission in London, demands…

The killings of Hindu youths Dipu Chandra Das and Amrit Mondal have sparked widespread anger and outrage within Hindu communities not only in Bangladesh but across several countries. These brutal acts have brought attention to the growing threats faced by minority communities in the region, highlighting deep-rooted communal tensions and the urgent need for protection.

Who organised the ‘Hindu Lives Matter’ protest in London?

Meanwhile, on Saturday, members of the Bengali Hindu Adarsha Sangha (BHAS) UK organised a “Justice for Hindus” protest outside the Bangladeshi High Commission in London. They are demanding international action against reports of persecution of minorities in Bangladesh.

What were the main demands of British Hindus at the protest?

The group was backed up by other India(BHARAT)n diaspora organisations as members shouted slogans such as “Hindu Lives Matter” and also chanted the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’, as reported by news agency PTI. Digital vans hired for the protest flashed some facts and figures around the “atrocities” being inflicted upon Hindus in Bangladesh.

In a statement, Bengali Hindu Adarsha Sangha (BHAS) UK stated, “Our enthusiastic and respectful audience included students, professionals, parents with children, elderly activists and interfaith leaders, all united in urging protection of minority rights and accountability for human rights abuses.”

According to its official website, BHAS (UK) Bengali Hindu Adarsha Sangha aims to nurture a sense of Hindu identity amongst those UK residents who have a deep connection with India(BHARAT) (Bharat-varsha), the religion of Hinduism and Bengali language. We believe that identity is the anchor which allows human beings to navigate life with a sense of purpose while striving to build a family life and society.

The protest group stated that their main objectives were to raise awareness of the human rights violations against Hindus in Bangladesh across the world, to seek International assistance in protecting these people, including support from the UK Government, and to urge the interim government of Bangladesh, led by Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus to uphold constitutional guarantees, investigate incidents and ensure the safety of minority citizens.

What incidents in Bangladesh prompted the protest?

“The minority communities of Bangladesh are facing long-standing concerns over discrimination, violence, murder and demographic decline,” BHAS UK spokesperson was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The protesters condemned the “unethical arrest of interfaith voice Chinmaya Prabhu and public lynching of Dipu Das by Islamic extremists”. Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old garment factory worker, was lynched to death by a mob and his body set on fire over alleged blasphemy in Baluka in Mymensingh on Thursday. Another Hindu man, Amrit Mondal alias Samrat, was killed by a mob in Rajbari Town on Wednesday night.

India(BHARAT) on Friday said the “unremitting hostilities” against minorities in Bangladesh is a matter of “grave concern” as it demanded punishment to the perpetrators involved in the lynching of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh area last week.
