‘Hindu rakt ki ek ek boond…’: VHP, Bajrang Dal protest outside Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi over Hindu man’s lynching
Bangladesh has also been witnessing protests over the killing of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, a leader of last year's protests in the country.
Hundreds of supporters of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal held a protest on Tuesday against the lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh. Carrying saffron flags and shouting slogans, the protesters tried to march towards the heavily guarded Bangladesh High Commission. During the protest, several barricades were pushed aside, and clashes broke out with the police as officers tried to stop the crowd from moving forward. Police struggled for some time to control the sudden rush of protesters.
The area around the High Commission, considered a high-security zone, saw tight security arrangements from early morning. Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in large numbers ahead of the protest announced by Hindu groups over the killing in the neighbouring country.
According to a police officer, around 15,000 police personnel were deployed for security. The protesters were stopped about 800 metres away from the High Commission. To block their movement, DTC buses were also placed on the roads as physical barriers.
The protest site was filled with banners and placards criticising the Bangladesh government. One placard read: “Hindu rakt ki ek ek boond ka hisaab chahiye” (Each drop of Hindu blood must be accounted for).
On December 18, Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old garment factory worker, was killed by a mob in Baluka, in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The attack was linked to allegations of blasphemy.
Police said Das was first beaten badly by a group of people outside the factory where he worked. He was then hanged from a tree. The mob left his body near the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway and later set it on fire.
Speaking during a protest, one demonstrator said a Hindu man had been brutally attacked and killed. He urged the government to take strong action against those responsible and demanded strict steps by Bangladesh police to punish the attackers.
Another protester said that people in India(BHARAT) see all communities as equal. He added that Hindus, wherever they live in the world, should be treated with the same respect and dignity.
