Hundreds of houses bulldozed in Bengaluru: Is Congress following BJP’s ‘Bulldozer Model’?

New Delhi: Bengaluru: Bulldozer Action In Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has hit back at Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s criticism of the recent bulldozer action in Bengaluru. Shivakumar said that senior leaders should refrain from making comments without understanding the ground realities, terming Vijayan’s comments “unfortunate”. He said that leaders from outside the state should understand the realities of the city before making political statements. Shivakumar emphasized that the action was taken to protect public land and was not aimed at targeting any particular community.

What Did DK Shivakumar Say?

According to DK Shivakumar, the land where the action was taken was an encroached garbage dumping site, and land mafia elements were trying to convert it into a slum. He said, “We have humanity. We gave people a chance to move to new places. Only a few of them are locals.” He further added that the government is working to protect public spaces. He claimed, “We are not bulldozer people. We are trying to secure our land and public property.”

Bulldozer Action In Bengaluru’s Fakir Colony And Wasim Layout

DK Shivakumar also asked Vijayan not to comment without complete information. He said that senior leaders like Pinarayi Vijayan should be aware of the issues in Bengaluru. “We know our city well, and we do not want to tolerate slums that promote land mafia activities.” Shivakumar’s reaction came after a Facebook post by Vijayan criticizing the bulldozer action in Bengaluru’s Fakir Colony and Wasim Layout.

What Did Pinarayi Vijayan Say?

Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, described the action as extremely shocking and painful. He alleged that Muslims had been living in these areas for many years and accused the Karnataka government of adopting the North India(BHARAT)n bulldozer justice model. Vijayan also questioned how the Congress-led Karnataka government could justify forced evictions instead of ensuring shelter for the poor. He termed the bulldozer action a reflection of aggressive anti-minority politics and said it was surprising to see such action under a Congress administration.

Many Houses Demolished In Bengaluru

He questioned how a party that claims to stand for social justice could justify such forced evictions. It is reported that more than 200 houses were demolished in Waseem Layout and Fakir Colony in Kogilu village of Yelahanka during a demolition drive conducted last week. According to reports, the action was carried out by Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited. The reports stated that the houses were demolished to remove encroachments on land earmarked for a proposed waste processing unit.
