Hyderabad-Bengaluru bus accident: 20 passengers burnt alive as Kaveri Travels bus catches fire after collision with bike near Kurnool district

At least 20 people are feared dead after a Bengaluru-bound Kaveri Travels bus, which left Hyderabad on Thursday night (October 24, 2025), caught fire near Chinnatekuru village on the outskirts of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, the fire started around 3:00 a.m. on Friday after a two-wheeler collided with the bus. Within minutes, the flames spread rapidly, completely burning down the vehicle.

According to officials, about 42 passengers were on board. Twelve of them managed to escape by breaking the windows. One survivor, speaking from the hospital, said he helped four people get out but lost some of his family members in the fire.

“At around 3, a volvo bus of Kaveri travels was going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. It hit a two-wheeler and it got stuck under the bus. That probably caused a spark and led to fire,” said Vikrant Patil, Superintendent of Police, Kurnool while speaking to NDTV. “Since it was an AC bus, passengers had to break open the windows. Whoever could break open the glass are safe.”

The bus door got jammed due to a short circuit and the vehicle was completely gutted within minutes. Most survivors were aged between 25 and 35 years, police said.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident and offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He directed state officials to work closely with the Andhra Pradesh authorities to ensure all necessary relief measures are taken without delay.

The Chief Minister also spoke with Chief Secretary K. Ramkrishna Rao and Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy about the incident and instructed them to set up a helpline for the victims’ families.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu extended condolences to the families of the victims and assured government support.

“I am shocked to learn about the devastating bus fire accident near Chinna Tekur village in Kurnool district. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. Government authorities will extend all possible support to the injured and affected families,” Naidu wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
