'I know Modi, he would never...': Putin warns Trump tariffs on India, China could backfire economically, criticises US efforts to...

Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized the United States for trying to pressure India(BHARAT) and China to cut energy trade with Moscow. He warned that such actions could hurt the global economy. Putin said that if the US keeps raising tariffs on countries that trade with Russia, it will only push prices higher worldwide and force the US Federal Reserve to keep interest rates up. In August, the US had already doubled tariffs on India(BHARAT)n exports to 50 per cent.
Speaking at a meeting with Russia experts, Putin stressed that India(BHARAT) and China would never accept being treated unfairly.
On US demands for India(BHARAT) to stop buying Russian oil, Putin said, “If India(BHARAT) turns away from our energy, it will lose out. And the people of India(BHARAT) will carefully watch their leaders’ decisions. They will never allow their country to be disrespected.”
He also added that he is confident Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not take such a step. “I know Mr. Modi. He would never do anything that harms India(BHARAT)’s dignity,” Putin said.
Putin also pointed out that the US itself continues to buy enriched uranium from Russia, even as it tells other countries not to purchase Russian energy.
His comments come at a time when India(BHARAT) has faced repeated criticism from Washington for buying Russian oil. In recent months, US President Doland Trump and his top officials, including the Commerce Secretary and the White House trade advisor, have openly targeted New Delhi over its energy ties with Moscow.
Putin backs India(BHARAT) amid US tariff row
Last month, Putin warned the US against trying to pressure India(BHARAT) and China with tariffs. Speaking after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, he said, “You cannot talk to India(BHARAT) or China like that.”
Putin stressed that the days of colonial-style dealings are over and that Washington must understand it cannot treat its partners in such a way.
Backing him, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also criticized the US, saying that ancient civilizations like India(BHARAT) and China will never accept ultimatums.
