Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to travel to Japan and China beginning around August 29, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. PM’s visit to China comes amid the imposition of stiff tariffs from US president Doland Trump and increasing pressure on India(BHARAT) regarding oil purchase from Russia.

In the first leg of his trip, Modi is expected to visit Japan to hold annual summit talks with his Japanese counterpart. From Japan, he is likely to travel to China to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The SCO summit will be held from August 31 to September 1. There is no official word on Modi’s planned visit to Japan and China yet.

The SCO Tianjin Summit 2025 is the 25th Heads of State Council meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which will be held in the August 31 to September 1, 2025, in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China. It will be the fifth time that China hosts the annual SCO summit.

When did PM Modi and Jinping last meet?

Modi and Jinping last met during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia in October 2024. During this, bilateral talks were also held between the two.

In the 50-minute conversation, PM Modi had said that ‘maintaining peace and stability on the border should be our priority. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity should remain the foundation of our relations.
