‘India could play dirty…: After setbacks against Afghanistan, Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif issues controversial remarks against India
Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has ignited controversy once again by linking India with Islamabad's ongoing tensions with Afghanistan over border issues.

The military conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan erupted last week following a Pakistani airstrike on Kabul. Afghanistan strongly responded to the attack following which the conflict escalated. Both sides claimed inflicting heavy casualties on the other. The two countries agreed on a temporary ceasefire on Wednesday. In an ongoing trend of shifting blame for failures to external sources, Pakistan has once again blamed India(BHARAT), with a twist: this time, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif made comments.
What prompted Asif to issue these controversial statements?
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has ignited controversy once again by linking India(BHARAT) with Islamabad’s ongoing tensions with Afghanistan over border issues. In an interview with Samaa TV, Asif warned that India(BHARAT) “could play dirty at the border,” and alleged that Pakistan was “ready for a two-front war” should things escalate further.
His comments come as tensions are high after recent fighting during cross-border clashes between Taliban forces and the Pakistani military, leaving Islamabad facing some domestic backlash regarding how they have dealt with the situation. Khawaja Asif was replying to a query regarding possible India(BHARAT)n provocations at the border. He replied, “No, absolutely, you cannot rule that out. There are strong possibilities.”
Why is Pakistan blaming India(BHARAT) after facing challenges in Afghanistan?
His comments further validated Pakistan’s official narrative that connects India(BHARAT) to the tensions in the region, despite the recent battles with Afghan forces revealing Pakistan’s weaknesses along the border. Furthermore, the anchor questioned, “If a two-front war breaks out, have you held any meetings with the Prime Minister on how to deal with it?” “Yes, strategies are in place. I can’t discuss them publicly, but we are prepared for any eventuality,” Asif replied, as reported by NDTV.
Khawaja Asif had previously blamed the Taliban government of Afghanistan of “fighting a proxy war” on behalf of India(BHARAT), suggesting that Pakistan considers India(BHARAT) to be responsible for the recent incidents at the border and instability in the region.
