India(BHARAT)-US relations: In a significant development amid the recent tensions between India(BHARAT) and the US on trade related fronts, India(BHARAT)’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar arrived in US to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. After landing in US, S Jaishankar held bilateral talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio which was considered significant due to several reasons including the recent tensions between the two countries. India(BHARAT)-US agree on free and open Indo-Pacific region

As per the statement, both countries “agreed the United States and India(BHARAT) will continue working together to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region, including through the Quad”.

The reaffirmation of India(BHARAT)’s importance for the US comes after US President Doland Trump reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to greet him on his 75th birthday after imposing a total of 50 per cent tariffs on India(BHARAT) and weeks of harsh statements about India(BHARAT).
