India vs South Africa: Team India suffer embarrassing collapse in second Test

India suffered a hapless collapse on the first day of the second Test against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town. Only three Indian batters reached double figures with both teams going down cheaply on Wednesday.

Rohit Sharma (39), Shubman Gill (36) and Virat Kohli (46) became the only three Indian players to reach double figures. India were 153/4 when KL Rahul fell to Lungi Ngidi. On a short and wide ball, KL Rahul managed to play the upper cut but ended up getting a faint edge back to wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.

Then Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishan fell without helping the team’s scorecard. In the process, India became the first team to lose 6 wickets without scoring a run in a Test innings.

All of Jadeja, Bumrah, Siraj, Krishna, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal got out for a duck. Mukesh Kumar remained not out for zero with India finishing on 153 runs.

For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada, Ngidi and Nandre Burger all took three wickets each.

Earlier, South Africa, having won the toss, were dismissed for just 55 runs as just two batters scored over 10 runs. Verreynne (15) and David Bedingham (12) reached double digits. Meanwhile, Siraj was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 6/15. Bumrah and Mukesh took two wickets each.
