Indian Railways: How to check train LIVE running status online using NTES, RailOne Apps, IVRS and SMS methods

Trains are one of the most popular and affordable ways to travel across India(BHARAT). They help you cover long distances comfortably, but sometimes trains get delayed, which can cause confusion and stress. Instead of worrying, you can easily track your train’s live status using different apps and websites. These tools show you exactly where the train is and how its journey is progressing in real time.

1. Using the NTES Website

The National Train Enquiry System (NTES) is the official website of India(BHARAT)n Railways where you can find all train-related updates. To check the live status of your train:

  • Go to the official NTES website.
  • From the left-hand menu, click on Spot Your Train.
  • Type your train’s name or number in the box and pick it from the list.
  • Choose your travel date.
  • The live running status will appear on the screen, along with a route map showing all the stops.

Using the NTES Mobile App

The NTES also has an official mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. Here’s how you can use it:

  • Download and install the NTES app from the Play Store or App Store.
  • Open the app and tap on Spot Your Train.
  • Enter your train’s name or number and tap Show Instances.
  • Select your train to see the detailed route map and live status.

3. Using the RailOne App

The RailOne app is a new “super app” launched by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). It combines many railway services in one place, including live train tracking. Here’s how to use it:

  • Download the RailOne app from the Play Store or App Store.
  • Register using your mobile number (or log in if you already have an account).
  • On the home screen, tap Track Your Train.
  • Enter your train’s name or number. You can also add your travel date and station to get accurate results.
  • Tap on Current Movement to see the train’s route map and live updates.

Check Train Status via SMS

If you don’t want to use apps, you can still find your train’s live status through a simple SMS. This works on both smartphones and basic feature phones.

Steps:

  • Open the Message app on your phone.
  • Type a new message in this format: SPOT (space) Train Number.
  • Example: SPOT 10101
  • Send this SMS to 139.
  • You’ll get a reply with the live running status of your train.

Check Train Status via IVRS

Another old but trusted method is IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System). You just need to make a call and follow the instructions.

Steps:

  • Dial 139 from your phone.
  • Listen carefully to the voice menu.
  • Select the option for live train running status.
  • Enter your train number using the keypad.
  • The system will then tell you the real-time status of your train.
