International Emmy Awards 2025: Diljit Dosanjh nominated for Best Actor for Amar Singh Chamkila; Film also gets a nod

In a proud moment for India(BHARAT), singer-turned-actor Diljit Dosanjh has received a nomination for the ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ for the film Amar Singh Chamkila at the esteemed International Emmy Awards 2025. Apart from Diljit, Imtiaz Ali’s film Chamkila has also been nominated for Best TV Movie. Diljit’s recognition comes for his terrific portrayal of Punjabi folk legend Chamkila in his biopic.

Dosanjh’s performance was hailed by both audiences and critics for capturing Chamkila’s energy, vulnerability, and charisma. His nomination puts him in the running alongside David Mitchell (Ludwig), Oriol Pla (Yo, Adicto), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude).

Taking to Instagram, Diljit shared happy moments with his loved ones. He also tagged Imtiaz Ali and expressed his gratitude for giving him the opportunity to be a part of the movie.

On the other hand, Imtiaz also took to his social media handle and in conversation with NDTV he expressed his happiness for the nomination.

“Thanks for bringing the happy news that Chamkila has been nominated for two International Emmy Awards, for Diljit Dosanjh as Best Actor and for Chamkila as Best Film. A lot of messages have already come from so many people congratulating me, so it means it’s a really big deal. I would like to congratulate the entire team of Chamkila, and also the people of Punjab, who contributed to this film. It is very much a film of that land. I congratulate Diljit Dosanjh twice over,” he said

Released on April 12, 2024, Amar Singh Chamkila takes the audience through the extraordinary journey of the Punjabi folk legend. Famed for his lyrics that boldly explored love, rebellion, and social realities, Chamkila’s rapid rise was tragically cut short when he and his wife, Amarjot, were assassinated in 1988 at just 27.

Apart from Diljit, the movie also featured Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot.
