The highly anticipated iPhone 16 series, set to succeed the recently launched iPhone 15 lineup, is generating buzz with rumours of larger displays and upgraded specifications.

The iPhone 15 lineup, which debuted in September 2023, featured four models: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The forthcoming iPhone 16 series is expected to build upon this foundation with improved features.

According to a report from MacRumors, the iPhone 16 Pro is likely to feature a 6.27-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to boast a larger 6.85-inch panel. These dimensions surpass the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, respectively.

The report provides detailed measurements for the iPhone 16 Pro, estimating dimensions of 149.6mm x 71.45mm x 8.25mm and a weight of 194g.

In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro measures 146.6mm x 70.6mm x 8.25mm, weighing 187g. The larger iPhone 16 Pro Max is projected to measure 163mm x 77.58mm x 8.25mm, weighing 225g, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max weighs 221g and measures 159.9mm x 76.7mm x 8.25mm.

The larger size of the display, as well as that of the device itself, means that the next-gen iPhones may also get larger batteries, which should theoretically last users longer.

These details align with previous leaks and CAD files.

An interesting addition to the iPhone 16 Pro Max model is the potential introduction of the ‘Ultra’ branding, a first in the lineup’s history. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumoured to feature tetraprism telephoto lenses, akin to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Furthermore, all iPhone 16 models are expected to be powered by in-house A18 chipsets and run on the iOS 18 operating system.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has hinted at a new ‘Capture Button’ dedicated to video recording and photos, and that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus may include the Action Button, currently exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro models.

As anticipation builds, the iPhone 16 series promises an array of upgrades, marking another step forward in Apple’s flagship smartphone lineup.

In terms of performance, the upcoming iPhone 16 series is anticipated to be powered by the A18 series chips. Rumors suggest that the standard iPhone 16 will feature the A18 chipset, while the Pro models might be equipped with the A18 Pro chipset variant. These chipsets are expected to deliver improved processing power, efficiency, and overall performance compared to their predecessors.

As for camera expectations, the Pro models of the iPhone 16 are rumoured to incorporate a “tetra-prism” telephoto lens. Additionally, there are speculations that the ultrawide camera on the Pro models could see a significant megapixel bump, potentially reaching 48MP. This upgrade aims to deliver sharper and more detailed low-light shots, enhancing the overall photography experience for users.
