Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a 32-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Jaipur on Thursday to go top of the IPL 2023 points table, and take over the spot from MS Dhoni and Co.

Following the defeat, CSK slipped to third place, below Gujarat Titans who are on second. RR, GT and CSK all have 10 points, but it’s the Net Run-Rate that makes RR the top team. RRhave an NRR of +0.939, while GT’s read +0.580. CSK’s NRRis currently +0.376.

Three teams are tied on eight points, with RR, GT, CSK and LSG currently occupying the playoff spots.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians are level on six points and have to be near-flawless to have any playoff aspirations.

RR had won the toss against CSK on Thursday and opted to bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed with a 43-ball 77, taking RR to 202/5. Despite afifty from Shivam Dube and 47 from Ruturaj Gaiikwad, CSK managed to post just 170/6 from 20 overs.

Adam Zampa (3/22) was the pick of the bowlers while R Ashwin also took two wickets.

List of Orange Cap and Purple Cap holders

RCB’s Faf du Plessis became the first batter to cross the 400-run mark during his 39-ball 62 against RR. Sitting firmly as the highest scorer this season, RCB skipper has scored five half centuries to tally 422 runs. Du Plessis’ RCB teammate Virat Kohli brought up his fifth half-century of the season on Wednesday to go second with 333 runs. CSK’s Devon Conway, who managed just eight runs against RR, is third with 314 runs.

RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj retained the Purple Cap after GT spinner Rashid Khan had briefly owned it on Tuesday. Siraj finished with figures of 1/33 against KKR and took his tally to 14 wickets, same as Rashid Khan in second place. CSK’s Tushar Deshpande took two wickets against RR to take his tally to 14 wickets as weel. Tushar is third on the list.
