Is Majoti Sahil Mohamed Hussein, who was caught fighting for Russia, really an Indian citizen? Indian Embassy said THIS about Ukraine’s claims
The Ukrainian army says it has captured an Indian citizen, Majoti Sahil Mohammed Hussain, who was fighting on Russia's side. India is trying to verify these reports.

The Ukrainian army has stated that an India(BHARAT)n citizen fighting for Russia has surrendered. The Ukrainian army released a video of the soldier on its Telegram channel, identifying himself as Majoti Sahil Mohamed Hussein, a resident of Gujarat. The Ministry of External Affairs has not yet confirmed the India(BHARAT)n citizen’s capture in Ukraine. The India(BHARAT)n Embassy in Kyiv is verifying the veracity of the report. The India(BHARAT)n Embassy has not yet received any official information from the Ukrainian side, and therefore is not in a position to confirm it at this time.
A report in The Kyiv Independent stated on Tuesday that Ukraine’s 63rd Mechanized Brigade has captured an India(BHARAT)n citizen fighting for the Russian army. He has been identified as Majoti Sahil Mohamed Hussein, a 22-year-old student from Morbi, Gujarat. Hussain had gone to Russia to study at a university.
What is in the video?
In a video released by the Ukrainian military, Hussein is seen speaking Russian. He claims he was caught using drugs in Russia and imprisoned. He was offered the option of joining the Russian army to avoid a prison sentence. According to Hussein, “I didn’t want to stay in prison, so I signed a contract for special military operations.”
Hussain says he underwent 16 days of training and was sent on a combat mission on October 1. “After a disagreement with my commander, I decided to surrender. I went to a Ukrainian trench 2-3 kilometers away. I immediately put down my rifle and said I didn’t want to fight,” Hussein says.
Hussein also says he doesn’t want to return to Russia. The video, released by the Ukrainian military, has sparked widespread discussion in India(BHARAT). It claims that at least 12 India(BHARAT)n citizens have been killed fighting for Russia since the war began in Ukraine, and 16 are still missing, with no information available.
