Israel faces threat of another October 7 like attack, Mossad and IDF on high alert
The main method of attack will likely be missiles and drones.
New Delhi: Israel is facing the threat of another terrorist attack similar to the one on October 7th. Consequently, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and the intelligence agency, Mossad, are on high alert. Sources within the Israeli Army’s Northern Command have stated that the IDF and Mossad are preparing for the growing threat to Israel from Iran-backed militias in Iraq. Reports indicate that Iran is currently devoting significant resources to strengthening its militias in Iraq, enabling them to launch ground and air attacks on Israel if the opportunity arises.
Hamas-like attack
Walla News reports that recently, Ismail Qaani, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force (IRGC-QF), visited Iraq and met with senior militia leaders. The main method of attack will likely be missiles and drones launched from Iraqi territory, similar to the pattern used during the Israel-Hamas war against Israel’s home front.
Ground attack on Israel
Another option could be a ground attack starting from Iraq, extending through Syria, and possibly reaching the Israel-Jordan border. The IRGC-QF supports the powerful and influential militia Kata’ib Hezbollah, one of several groups operating under the control of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). Kata’ib Hezbollah is considered the most prominent of these militias due to its political influence and extensive arsenal, including long-range drones. In the past, it has targeted US forces in the region.
Kata’ib Hezbollah is a very powerful militia
This group also controls major smuggling routes from Iraq to Syria. According to estimates, its fighters are also involved in arms smuggling. The Israeli Air Force has previously attacked militia-linked bases along the Iraqi border. During Operation Rising Lion, the Israeli Air Force attacked Iranian military bases along the Iraqi border that serve militias in Iraq with Iranian funding.
