Rome: In a stern statement, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that Italy will recognize a Palestinian state only after all Israeli hostages are released and the Hamas terrorist group is excluded from any governmental role. While speaking to the reporters, Meloni said, “I am not against recognizing Palestine, but we must keep our priorities straight.” She announced that her government will present a proposal on this issue in parliament.
Extending her full support for Israel, Meloni also said that international pressure should be directed at Hamas, not Israel. Meloni made these statements while speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. She also accused the group of starting the war and obstructing its end by refusing to release the hostages. Italy is considered a supporter of Israel.
