Kashmir accident: 4 of family killed, 5 critical as dumper truck rams passenger vehicle in Kashmir’s Budgam

At least 10 people, nine members of a family, were reportedly killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district in a head-on-collision between a dumper truck and a Tata Sumo passenger vehicle on late Saturday night.

Budgam accident: In a tragic incident, four members of a family were killed, while at least five others sustained critical injuries when a dumper truck rammed head-on into a Tata Sumo passenger vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on late Saturday night.

The victims, all of whom are reportedly natives of  Mahwara village in Budgam, were rushed to District Hospital Budgam, local officials told India(BHARAT).com.

“Four people have died in the tragic accident. They were returning to their native Mahwara after attending a wedding feast in nearby Waterwani village, when the Sumo they were travelling in collided with a dumper truck coming from the opposite direction,” a senior health official at District Hospital Budgam told India(BHARAT).com.

Police said four people died on the spot, while seven others were injured when the Sumo passenger vehicle they were aboard collided with a dumper on the Budgam Ring Road at around 10:20 pm.

All four deceased were residents of Mahwara village, they said, adding that five of the injured, who are reported to be in a critical condition, have been referred to a medical facility in Srinagar for advanced treatment, while two are being treated for injuries at the Budgam hospital.

In a post on X, recently-elected Budgam MLA and PDP leader Aga Syed Muntazir, condoled the deaths, and urged his supporters not to celebrate his recent electoral win in wake of the tragic accident that claimed several lives.

“Heartbreaking tragedy strikes Budgam: A severe car accident on New Ring Road near Waterwani has claimed reportedly 10 precious lives from Mahwara. I’m deeply moved—let’s honor their memory by abstaining from election victory celebrations in this hour of grief. Budgam mourns together,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, officials said the casualties in the mishap may rise as five of the injured are in a critical condition,

Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
