Keerthy Suresh opens up about side effects of rapid weight loss

Actress Keerthy Suresh recently gave an insight into her fitness transformation when she lost 8 to 9 kilograms by doing only cardio workouts. The actress revealed that during the year 2018-19, she lost weight without doing any crash diets but only cardio. The results were visibly good but not healthy.

In an interview, Keerthy revealed that she used to be a little thin-built and not fat and “went hardcore” on cardio workouts. She did cycling, jogging, skipping, and even high-intensity interval training workouts. The transformation was visible as her face became “chiselled” but in some pictures, she had also appeared very thin. The actress has also later stated that there was a lot of fat loss but muscle loss was visible as well.

What are the side effects of losing weight?

Losing weight is not the same as being healthy. In Keerthy’s case, the emphasis on cardio led to fat and muscle loss, a weaker metabolism, and a disproportionate appearance. In recent pictures that were from 2019, the actress had even said that her face looked “emaciated” in some of the pictures of hers from back then. She had also revealed that during those days, her lifestyle was completely unstructured and she would only sleep, eat, work and do the same things over and over.

How balanced fitness regime helped her?

she transitioned to a more balanced workout plan. She has also recently stated that she has included more of strength training and weight lifting into her workouts which has helped her gain and maintain muscle mass along with cardio.

Cardio burns calories but strength training preserves muscle. There is a visible impact of only doing cardio, but it can also be harmful. Rapid weight loss often looks good in the short term, but health in the long term is more important. Also, consistency and a disciplined lifestyle (sleeping, eating, working out) can be the key to fitness transformation. The body of every individual is different and the routine that worked for one, will have to be tried and tested for another.
