New Delhi: The Canadian government has designated the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity. Officials say the gang targets specific communities and its activities pose a serious threat to society and the law. Strict legal action will now be taken against it in Canada, and its financial and political support will be completely suspended. This step was taken to maintain security and peace in the country.

This action was taken on Monday, 29 September 2025, after months of reports that the Bishnoi gang had targeted pro-Khalistani groups in Canada over the past few years, including Sikh Canadian citizens. PM Narendra Modi’s government dismissed reports that it indirectly used the gang to target anti-India(BHARAT) Sikh extremists.

Named in several major cases in India(BHARAT)

Delhi has urged Ottawa to take action against terrorist elements and their financiers based in Canada. Lawrence Bishnoi is a former student leader from Chandigarh and Punjab, and his gang has been implicated in several major cases in India(BHARAT), such as the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala and the case of Mumbai politician Baba Siddiqui.

Currently lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail

He is currently lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He also threatened actor Salman Khan. Other prominent members of his gang are his younger brother Anmol Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and Rohit Godara, although recent reports indicate that Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara have disassociated themselves from the gang.

A Canadian government press release stated, “The Bishnoi gang is a transnational criminal organisation operating primarily from India(BHARAT). The gang also has active influence in Canada, particularly in areas with large immigrant Sikh and other communities.”
