Lionel Messi leaves stadium in just 10 minutes after chaos erupts at Salt Lake Stadium…, BJP calls it ‘total embarrassment’, Mamata apologises to Argentine football superstar

Football fans who had come to watch Lionel Messi were left enraged by the excessive presence of politicians at the Salt Lake Stadium. Angry fans started throwing bottles and chairs from the stands onto the ground, leading to a riot-like situation. Due to this, the program of Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi to walk around the stadium ground and greet the fans has been cancelled. Seeing the deteriorating situation in the stadium, Messi was taken out from there under tight security and has been sent back to the hotel. Police are trying to control the situation in the stadium.

‘Total embarrassment’

Soon the chaos turned into a political fest after the BJP ripped into West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool party for “complete mismanagement.” Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, “Such a big international player is going to different parts of the country, but nothing happened anywhere. The incident that happened in West Bengal today shows what the Trinamool has made West Bengal into. The entire program was hijacked by TMC, from TMC’s Sujit Bose to Arup Biswas; all the ministers were involved in this. There has been a complete looting of money; tickets worth Rs 5-8 thousand have been sold. Black marketing of tickets happened, there has been corruption in this too…”

Mamata Banerjee apologies

A red-faced Mamata Banerjee later apologized to the Argentine football superstar and also announced an inquiry committee to probe what led to the nightmarish turn of events. “I am deeply disturbed and shocked by the mismanagement witnessed today at Salt Lake Stadium. I sincerely apologise to Lionel Messi, as well as to all sports lovers and his fans, for the unfortunate incident,” said Banerjee.

According to media reports, fans had gathered at the stadium overnight to see Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi. Messi arrived at the stadium and virtually unveiled his 70-foot-tall statue installed at the Sreebhumi Sporting Club in Lake Town. Thousands of football fans present there witnessed this moment. After this, Messi waved to the fans. The fans were desperate to get a glimpse of him. Due to this, Messi’s program of walking around the stadium ground and greeting the fans was cancelled from a security point of view. Messi’s program was reduced to just 5 minutes. Only after this, a commotion started in the stadium.

Fans were furious when they couldn’t catch a glimpse of their star. The spectators, who had been waiting all night to catch a glimpse of Messi, became enraged when they couldn’t see him. They began tearing down banners and throwing chairs onto the field. Fans also began throwing water bottles they had brought onto the field. Within a short time, the situation spiraled completely out of control, turning into a riot.

Loud hooting of officials and politicians

Angry fans booed officials and politicians who were seen surrounding Messi, escalating the situation. One football fan told the Times of India(BHARAT), “Only politicians and actors were surrounding Messi. Then why were we invited? We bought tickets for 12,000 rupees, but we couldn’t even see his face.” Similar anger was visible among fans everywhere, who had come to the stadium with expensive tickets and couldn’t even see the face of their star.
