Lockdown in PoK: In a breaking development from the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), rising tensions have led to an indefinite lockdown and protests led by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) on Monday. As per media reports, Pakistan has suspended cellular, fibre internet services and mobile phone services across the region. What’s happening in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)?
In the recent protest in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) has laid a 38-point charter of demands including the removal of perks of the ruling elites, along with the demand to end 12 seats in the Assembly reserved for Kashmiri migrants who came from the India(BHARAT)n side of the territory.
Why is PoK public angry on Shehbaz Sharif government?
For background information, members of the PoK government as well as Shehbaz Sharif-led Pakistan government had earlier held talks with the AAC before it called for the strike but in vain.
“There is a complete communication blackout. The Pakistan administration has shut down the cellular and internet services in PoK. All WiFi and 2-G communication is blocked,” a News 18 report said about the communication blackout in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
“Let it be clear once again: we are not running a campaign against any ideology or institution, but for the bona fide rights of our people that have been denied for over seven decades under one or the other pretext,” Shaukat Nawaz Mir, core member of the action committee, was quoted as saying by Pakistani news paper Dawn News.
