17 children were rescued after a man took them hostage in Mumbai’s Powai area on Thursday.
Mumbai: A hostage situation has emerged from Maharashtra, where at least 17 children were held hostage by a man in Mumbai’s Powai area on Thursday. All the children were later rescued by the police and the kidnapper was arrested. The accused was later identified as Rohit Arya.
The accused released a video on social media platforms, stating that instead of dying by suicide he had made a plan to hold some children hostage.
“I am Rohit Arya. Instead of dying by suicide, I have made a plan and am holding some children hostage here. I don’t have many demands; I have very simple demands, moral demands, ethical demands, and a few questions,” Arya said in a video.

Arya demanded to talk to some people as he had certain questions for them.
I want to talk to some people, ask them questions, and if I have counter-questions to their answers, I want to ask them back. But I want these answers. I don’t want anything else. I’m not a terrorist, nor do I demand a lot of money, and I certainly don’t want anything immoral,” Arya said in the video.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta Nalawade, police recovered air guns and chemicals at the crime spot. Cops entered the premises via a toilet, forcing entry.
Witnesses stated that children were seen peeking out through the glass windows of the building.
The incident took place at RA Studio. According to preliminary information, Rohit Arya is an employee at the studio. He is also a Youtuber and runs a YouTube channel.
For the past few days, Rohit has been conducting auditions at the premises. Today, when as many as 100 children arrived for auditions at the studio, the accused allowed 80 to leave and kept 15-20 children hostage.
