She studied at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar and later completed her degrees in Richmond, Virginia, after returning to the United States.

Duwaji and Mamdani first met on an online dating app, a story Mamdani shared in an interview with comedian Kaneez Surka. Their shared passion for music and art brought them closer, and Mamdani proposed to her in Dubai, where the couple married earlier this year.
