Started as an Extra

Naseeruddin Shah was born on July 20, 1950, in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Ali Mohammad Shah, wanted him to become an officer, but the actor wasn’t particularly interested in studies. He decided to pursue a career in cinema. He first landed an opportunity as an extra in the 1967 film “Aman,” where he played part of the crowd. The actor was paid Rs 7.50.

Naseeruddin Shah’s first pay was just Rs 7.50

Naseeruddin Shah was 16–17 years old at the time of this film. He revealed in an interview that his last role in the Mohan Kumar-directed film was as an extra, in the funeral scene of Rajendra Kumar’s character. He said, “I was very serious in this role. I was paid 7.50 rupees for it, which I managed for two weeks.”

Has Won 3 National Awards

Naseeruddin Shah made his lead actor debut at the age of 25 in the 1975 film “Nishant,” starring alongside actresses Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil. The actor has starred in numerous acclaimed films, winning National Awards for his roles in films like “Sparsh,” “Paar,” and “Iqbal.”
