Meeting rooms, restaurants, international hotline, bulletproof cars, and lot more, Kim Jong reaches Beijing in his special moving ‘fortress’ train
He reached Beijing on Tuesday, 02 September 2025, after a journey of about 20 hours.

New Delhi: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has arrived in China, where he will take part in the military parade in Beijing. He will also hold a meeting with Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. One of the most interesting features of this visit is that Kim Jong has travelled by train, not a plane.
Kim left for China on Monday, September 1 evening, from Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, in his armoured train ‘Sunshine’. He reached Beijing on Tuesday, 02 September 2025, after a journey of about 20 hours.
About ‘Sunshine’, Kim Jong Un’s special train
Kim’s green coloured train, Sunshine, is very special. It has everything from meeting rooms to restaurants. It has been designed in such a way that the top leader can be saved in case of an attack.
South Korea’s Yonhap news agency has described Kim’s bulletproof train as a moving ‘fortress’. This shows that it has been specially designed keeping security in mind so that bullets and bombs do not affect it. It travels at a speed of only 60 km (37 miles) per hour, and in such a situation, it takes a lot of time compared to a plane, but for the past several decades, the top leaders of North Korea have trusted this train. Kim’s predecessors have also been travelling by it.
What are the facilities on the train?
Experts say that compared to North Korea’s fleet of old passenger planes, this bulletproof train is more secure and comfortable for a large entourage, security guards, food and facilities. While travelling in the train, Kim can easily discuss the agenda of meetings with his officers. This train has a bedroom, lighting on the walls and a meeting room equipped with red-pink leather armchairs.
Not many things are public about this train of Kim Jong Un. Kim travels in this train with 10 to 15 coaches. However, very few people know which coach he is in. A team of doctors and bulletproof cars travel with Kim Jong Un in the train. Also, there is a system in the train to contact the country and the host country.
Kim has travelled 4500 km by train
In 2019, he travelled 4,500 km through China by this train for his second summit with Trump in Hanoi, which lasted two and a half days. On Kim’s table in the train, there is a gold-plated laptop, several phones, and his special box of cigarettes. The windows of the train have blue and gold curtains.
Kim is among the 26 world leaders who will join Chinese President Xi Jinping to watch a huge military parade in Beijing on Wednesday, September 3. Russian President Vladimir Putin will also be present to witness the parade.
