New Delhi: The Muhammad Yunus-led interim Bangladesh government is witnessing a looming threat. As per the reports, Inqilab Mancha, which helped the Yunus government to establish, may launch a movement to remove it. However, a final decision has not yet been taken. Efforts are underway to arrest the killer following the death of the organization’s spokesperson, Osman Hadi. The Inqilab Mancha has spoken of restarting protests.

The reports further state that this warning came after a 24-hour ultimatum issued on Sunday. Even after the ultimatum expired, no major action was taken by the police. Inqilab Mancha office-bearer Abdullah Al Jaber said, “The deadline passed without any concrete steps from the Home Adviser or the concerned authorities regarding the arrest of the accused.”

He had announced that protests would begin in Dhaka from 3 pm on Monday, adding that during the protest it would be decided whether to continue supporting the Yunus administration or to “begin a movement to remove it.”

He alleged that the absence of the Home Adviser and his Special Secretary from a recent ministry briefing was an attempt to downplay the incident.

Another student shot

Unidentified gunmen on Monday shot Motaleeb Sikder in the head in Khulna, a southwestern city of Bangladesh. It is important to note that Sikder is the second leader of the student-led violent movement of 2024 to be targeted. The attack came just days after the killing of prominent youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi.

Mahmuda Mitu, Joint Principal Coordinator of the NCP (National Citizen Party), said in a Facebook post, “Mohammad Motaleeb Sikder, head of the NCP’s Khulna Division and central coordinator of the party’s workers’ front, was shot a few minutes ago.”

Mitu is a medical professional. She said Sikder was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
