Mumbai Hostage Crisis: In the latest development in the Mumbai hostage crisis, Rohit Arya, the man who held 17 children hostage in Mumbai on Thursday, has died. He sustained bullet injuries during an exchange of gunfire with the police, NDTV Profit reported. As per police, Rohit Arya started firing at police using an air gun during the rescue operation. In retaliation, cops also fired back in which the accused sustained a bullet injury. He was rushed to a hospital with gunshot wound but died during treatment.

Mumbai Hostage Crisis: The Dramatic Confrontation

The Bollywood-style confrontation between the accused and the hostages took place inside RA Studios. Earlier in the day, Arya had lured some children under the pretext of an ‘audition’ and held them hostage for several hours. Police stated that the children’s age ranged between 8 and 14.

Mumbai Hostage Crisis: Police Received Distress Call

According to the police, the control room received a distress call at around 1.45 pm. Several teams immediately deployed to the crime spot and negotiations began as soon as cops reached RA studios. Arya refused to release the children and threatened to harm them. Getting negative response, a police team made a forced entry through a toilet and rescued all 17 children safely.

Mumbai Hostage Crisis: Before The Incident, Arya Had Released A Video

Before the incident Arya released a video on social media, stating that instead of dying by suicide, he had made a plan to hold some children hostage.

“I am Rohit Arya. Instead of dying by suicide, I have made a plan and am holding some children hostage here. I don’t have many demands; I have very simple demands, moral demands, ethical demands, and a few questions,” Arya said in a video.

Arya demanded to talk to some people as he had certain questions for them.

I want to talk to some people, ask them questions, and if I have counter-questions to their answers, I want to ask them back. But I want these answers. I don’t want anything else. I’m not a terrorist, nor do I demand a lot of money, and I certainly don’t want anything immoral,” Arya said in the video.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta Nalawade, police recovered air guns and chemicals at the crime spot. Cops entered the premises via a toilet forcing entry.

Witnesses stated that children were seen peeking out through glass windows of the building.

The incident took place at RA Studio. According to preliminary information Rohit Arya is an employee at the studio. He is also a Youtuber and runs a YouTube channel.

Mumbai Hostage Crisis: Department Owed Him Payment

Arya had alleged that the department owed him payment for PLC Sanitation Monitor Project. The project was launched under the Chief Minister’s My School, Beautiful School campaign. The accused claimed that the project part of his ‘Let’s Change’ campaign started back in 2013.

Arya alleged that the department sanctioned Rs 2 crore for his work but didn’t pay him since last year. He had also gone to hunger strike twice in 2024, accusing government officials of sidelining him from the project. He further stated that he Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar assured him of payment for his work.

For the past few days, Rohit was conducting auditions at the premises. Today, when as many as 100 children arrived for auditions at the studio, the accused allowed 80 to leave and kept 15-20 children hostage.
