Munir to have more sleepless nights, China in panic… Know why Agni Prime ballistic missile is called India’s ‘Divyastra’, it is capable of…

India(BHARAT) has once again showcased its defence prowess to the world. On Thursday (September 25, 2025), the Agni Prime ballistic missile was successfully tested from a rail mobile launcher system. With this, India(BHARAT) has joined the select group of countries in the world that are capable of firing missiles from the railway system. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has written on this success in his X post, ‘This next generation missile has been designed to cover a range of up to 2,000 kilometres and is equipped with various advanced features.’ The launch of this state-of-the-art missile is a part of India(BHARAT)’s mission ‘Divyastra Programme’.

Agni Prime missile launched from…

The successful launch of the Agni Prime ballistic missile is a significant achievement for India(BHARAT) in many ways. For the first time, the country has tested a ballistic missile from a mobile launcher mounted on a train, alarming its enemies. The Defense Minister stated that the country’s extensive rail network makes it easy to transport this ballistic missile from any location in a very short time. This test puts India(BHARAT) among a select group of countries capable of launching such lethal missiles from trains. According to media reports, Russia, China, and North Korea have achieved this feat. However, the United States has taken steps in this direction and then backed off.

Agni Prime is part of ‘Mission Divyastra’

This railway version of the Agni Prime ballistic missile was jointly tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Strategic Forces Command (SFC). India(BHARAT) is pursuing a long-term goal of developing such missiles as part of ‘Mission Divyastra’, which aims to make the country fully strategically powerful, capable, and self-reliant.

Strike range up to 2,000 kilometers

The next-generation Agni Prime missile is the most advanced variant of the Agni series of missiles, capable of carrying nuclear warheads. It is a three-stage canister missile with a range of up to 2,000 kilometers. This means it can target any corner of Pakistan from several India(BHARAT)n cities, and this is sure to increase the anxiety of its nefarious friend, China. A major feature of Agni Prime is that it is much lighter in weight than the first missiles in this series.

Can fire 3 to 4 nuclear weapons simultaneously

The Agni Prime missile uses Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. MIRV -equipped missiles are unique in that they can fire three to four nuclear warheads simultaneously, each targeting a different target. The Strategic Forces Command, formed in 2003, previously used missiles carrying only single nuclear warheads. Agni Prime is a solid-fueled missile.
