New toll rules from Nov 15: Vehicle without FASTag to pay twice, but UPI payment will be charge…

New Toll Rules From Nov 15: The government has recently introduced new rules regarding toll payments. As per the revised rules, vehicles (small or big) entering National Highways without a FASTag will be charged different fees based on their payment method. The decision has been made in order to promote digital payments and reduce cash payments at toll plazas.

What If A User Makes A Cash Payment At Toll Plazas?

If a user makes a cash payment, as per revised rules, they have to pay double the applicable toll tax. This is because the Central Government is trying to reduce the cash payment system at the toll plazas and wants to promote digital payments. It’s simple, less cash payments mean less waiting.

HIHGLIGHTS

  • Vehicles without FASTag will face different toll charges based on payment mode.
  • Cash payments will be charged double.
  • UPI or online payments will be charged 1.25 times.
  • New rule effective from November 15, 2025.

What If A User Makes UPI Or Online Payment At Toll Plazas?

If the same user makes a payment using UPI or other digital methods, under the new rule, he will be charged 1.25 times tax, lesser than the cash payment. Currently, both cash and UPI payments are taxed twice. It means users without the FASTag will pay less tax when making payments using online modes.

From When Will The New Rule Come Into Effect?

As per the orders, the new rule will come into force from November 15th. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced updates under the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) (Third Amendment) Rules, 2025.

How Much Tax Will Be Charged?

For Example: If a toll fee for a car is Rs 100 through FASTag, it will become Rs 200 if paid in cash. But when the same user pays the amount via UPI, he has to pay only Rs 125.
