Lahore: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has slammed cash-strapped Pakistan, voicing grave concerns over the escalating security breakdown and deteriorating human rights conditions in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The Commission stated that the province is gripped by fear and lawlessness, The Express Tribune reported.
As per the fact-finding report of The Express Tribune, the HRCP-named – ‘Caught in the Crossfire’ features a disturbing picture of the neighbouring country’s internal security challenges. The report states that almost two-thirds of terror incidents reported in Pakistan this year took place in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces and law enforcement personnel were the primary targets in these attacks.
HRCP reports added that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region remain at the centre of the violence with people in the region continuing to suffer due to insecurity, recurring displacement, and inaccessibility to justice. Intelligence-based operations are mostly conducted by Pak security agencies without civilian oversight. During these operations, local police and administration are sidelined.
