Noida and Yamuna Expressway speed limits to reduce from THIS date, reason is…

The speed limits for the Noida and Yamuna Expressway are changing again. This comes into effect from December 15, i.e., Monday. The light vehicles that earlier drove at 100 km per hour will now move at 75 km per hour. The heavy vehicles will continue to drive on their existing limits of 50-60 km per hour. The officials of the traffic police mention that this speed limit is not a random decision. Factors like low visibility, slippery roads, and sudden braking make high-speed driving quite unsafe.

Why is the speed limit being reduced?

Winter driving is extremely risky as visibility gets reduced because of fog. It also causes immediate tyre slips, without letting the drivers react to the situations. The experts mention that the reduced time limit helps in the prevention of fatal casualties.

The deputy commissioner of police (Noida Traffic), Dr Pravin Ranjan Singh, stated, “A meeting will be conducted with the Noida Authority soon to review the situation, and the speed limit will be reduced. The revised limit will also be visible on Google Maps, an initiative taken in November, the road safety month.”

What are authorities doing for safety?

Authorities are taking multiple steps to promote safety. These include toll plaza staff using public-address systems and providing safety pamphlets, along with offering tea to the truckers of the night shifts, as per the senior manager for Yamuna Expressway toll operations, JK Sharma. Patrol teams are also active on the expressway, and new norms of speed limits will be showing up on Google Maps.

Seriousness of speeding issue in Noida

The seriousness of the speeding issue in Noida is quite serious. More than 59,000 speeding challans were issued between the months of January and October 2025. It doesn’t end here. The data and figures for accidents are even more shocking. In the year 2024, over 460 people lost their lives in road accidents. In 2025, over 310 deaths were reported from January to August.
