New Delhi: Odisha’s disaster management teams are on alert in view of the threat of a cyclonic storm in the state. Starting October 27, the low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal may bring heavy rainfall to the state. It is important to note that the cyclone’s impact will also affect Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. These regions are likely to experience heavy rain from today and over the next three days.

As per the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall may begin in South 24 Parganas, East, and West Medinipur districts from Sunday. Meanwhile, Odisha is likely to witness heavy rainfall on October 27, 28, and 29. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from October 26.

Talking about the preparations, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has assured that the state is fully prepared to face the cyclonic storm expected to hit on October 22 or 29. He said that Odisha is highly vulnerable to natural calamities such as heavy rainfall, floods, river overflows, and cyclones. “We are preparing for the cyclonic storm that may make landfall on either the 22nd or 29th of this month. The Health, Water Resources, Energy, and Agriculture Departments are completely ready,” he added.

  • On Saturday, the minimum temperature dipped further compared to Friday, while air quality remained in the poor category.
  • According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), at 4 p.m., Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 292, categorized as “poor.”
  • The Meteorological Department reported that the minimum temperature on Saturday was 16.9°C — 0.3°C below normal.
  • In October 2023, the minimum temperature had dropped to 15.9°C, while in 2024 it was recorded at 17.4°C.
  • The maximum temperature was 32.0°C — 0.2°C above normal. The humidity levels ranged between 94 percent and 38 percent.
