Aleema Khan, one of the sisters of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has claimed that Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir is a “radical Islamist” who desires a full-scale war with India(BHARAT). She made these remarks in an interview with Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim. According to Aleema, Munir is an “Islamic conservative,” while her brother Imran Khan is a “pure liberal” who tried to improve relations with India(BHARAT) and even with the BJP.
Her sharp criticism of Munir comes just a day after another sister was reportedly permitted to meet Imran at Adiala Jail amid rumours regarding his safety.
Speaking about the tensions between India(BHARAT) and Pakistan, Aleema alleged, “Asim Munir’s radical mindset pushes him toward wanting war with India(BHARAT). His conservatism and beliefs make him hostile toward anyone who doesn’t share his views.”
Aleema Khan described her brother Imran Khan as an “asset” and urged Western countries to do more to secure his release. Imran, the PTI chairman, has been in jail since 2023 after being convicted in several corruption cases.
According to Aleema, Imran is a “true liberal” who always tries to build better ties with India(BHARAT), even with the BJP, whenever he is in power. She claimed that, in contrast, Army Chief Asim Munir has a “radical Islamist outlook,” which, in her view, pushes him toward confrontation. “If someone like Asim Munir is in charge, there will be conflict with India(BHARAT) and its partners. Imran is valuable, and the West must step up its efforts to free him,” she said.
“So whenever Imran Khan comes to power, you will see that he always tries to befriend India(BHARAT) and even BJP. Whenever there is radicalised Islamist Asim Munir (in power), you will see that there will be war with India(BHARAT). And not just India(BHARAT), even its allies will suffer,” she said.
Aleema also linked Munir’s earlier comments, calling Kashmir Pakistan’s “jugular vein” and saying Muslims are fundamentally different from Hindus—to rising tensions in the region. Those remarks were widely discussed after the April attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. India(BHARAT) responded in May with Operation Sindoor, striking multiple terror camps and military sites inside Pakistan. Since then, Munir has continued to use stronger language against India(BHARAT), recently warning of a “decisive response” even to minor provocations.
