Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict: In a significant geopolitical development amid the peace talks between the countries, the Afghan Taliban government has exposed Pakistan and claimed that Pakistani forces attacked the Spin Boldak region of the country despite the truce and ongoing peace talks in Istanbul. As per media reports, the Taliban also said that it has not retaliated “out of respect” to prevent civilian casualties. Here are all the details you need to know about the recent developments between the two countries amid the ongoing peace talks.

What Afghan Taliban said on Pakistan attacks?

“While the third round of negotiations with the Pakistani side has begun in Istanbul, unfortunately, this afternoon, Pakistani forces once again opened fire on Spin Boldak, causing concern among the local population. The Islamic Emirate’s forces, out of respect for the negotiation team and to prevent civilian casualties, have so far shown no reaction,” Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said on X.

“It is worth noting that in the previous round of negotiations, both sides had agreed to extend the ceasefire and prevent any acts of aggression,” the Afghan Taliban spokesperson added.

Update on Pakistan-Afghan Taliban peace talks

As per the reports, Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban resumed peace talks in Istanbul on Thursday, aiming to tackle the issue of cross-border terrorism and avoid further escalation between the two sides. Notably, the clashes between the border troops of both the countries broke out on October 11, resulting in casualties on both sides.

As per a report carried by PTI news agency, Pakistan claimed that at least 206 Afghan Taliban and 110 Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan operatives were killed, while Pakistan suffered the loss of 23 soldiers.
Consequently, a ceasefire was agreed between the two sides on October 15, which had been extended during the two rounds of talks held on October 19 in Doha and October 25 in Istanbul.
