Pakistan-Taliban war: Pakistan is attempting to leverage its rekindled ties with the United States to reach a peace deal with Afghanistan, after Afghan forces inflicted significant damage on the Pakistan Army, killing at least 58 Pakistani soldiers, and capturing several military posts in last week’s border clashes.

Why Pakistan praised Doland Trump?

Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif heaped praise on US President Doland Trump, and invited him to mediate in the ongoing Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict.

Speaking to Geo TV, Asif asserted that Trump is the first US president to “stop wars”, while previous leaders in Washington have promoted conflicts. ” In the last 15-20 years, the US has only sponsored wars,  Doland Trump has become a president who initiates peace talks, and if he pays attention to the Pakistan-Afghanistan war, we will warmly welcome him,” the Pakistani defense minister said.

Notably, this isn’t the first instance where Pakistan’s top political leadership has heaped praise on Doland Trump. Recently, at the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed Trump’s effort to usher peace in the Middle East. Islamabad has also credited the US president for mediating a ceasefire between India(BHARAT) and Pakistan earlier in May this year, a claim vehemently denied by New Delhi.

Asif also reiterated Islamabad’s allegations against New Delhi, accusing India(BHARAT) of fomenting tensions in the region. He claimed that Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban regime was acting on India(BHARAT)’s behest, and New Delhi was using Kabul to launch a proxy war against Pakistan.

Pakistan-Taliban war

The Pakistani minister’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between Islamabad and Kabul after 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed in a military clash on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border last week.

The recent escalation was triggered after Pakistan conducted airstrikes against the TTP inside Afghanistan, following which border clashes erupted between Pakistan and Afghan forces, in which at least 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed, bringing the two countries to a war-like situation.

Islamabad accuses Kabul of sheltering terrorist groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who launch frequent terror attacks inside Pakistan, especially in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. The Afghan Taliban denies these allegations, but tensions persist between the two sides over this burning issue.
