Paytm introduces ‘Hide Payments’ feature: A new step toward safer, Private UPI transactions
Paytm has introduced a new Hide Payments feature that lets users conceal selected UPI transactions for added privacy, offering cleaner history views and secure access whenever needed within the app.
In a move aligning with growing consumer demand for transaction privacy, homegrown UPI-app giant Paytm has rolled out a new feature labelled “Hide Payments”, enabling users to remove selected transactions from their main history view while retaining full access whenever needed. According to Paytm, the transactions are not deleted or altered – they simply move into a secure, separate section of the app. The company claims this makes Paytm “the only UPI app to offer this capability” so far.
Why this feature hits the right note in shared-device households?
With smartphones now being shared across family members, or used for both personal and joint purchases, the demand for more nuanced control over payment visibility has surged. Paytm points out that many users “manage shared devices, handle sensitive purchases, or prefer a more discreet view of their financial activity”.
In that context, Hide Payments may help users better manage their digital footprint: having full transparency and auditability of transactions when needed, while keeping the day-to-day view cleaner, more private and more suited to shared use.
The feature is straightforward:
In the app’s Balance & History section, swipe left on a payment you wish to hide → tap “Hide” → confirm yes.
To unhide a payment: in the same section tap the three-dot menu → select “View Hidden Payments” → authenticate via PIN/biometric → swipe left on the hidden transaction → tap “Unhide”.
As noted, the transaction remains accessible – simply tucked away – so users retain full control and continuity of their payment records.
Paytm’s AI-Driven Overhaul: More Control, Cleaner Interface
This step comes hot on the heels of Paytm’s broader app revamp geared around an “AI-first” user interface. The app already offers features such as automatic categorisation of monthly spend by shopping, bills, travel and utilities; “Payment Location” tags; and “Payment Search” by name, amount, note or payment type.
By layering in Hide Payments, the company is signalling its ambition not only to streamline payment processing, but also to give users finely tuned control over how their data and history are displayed and managed.
What It Signals for the Future of Digital Payments in India(BHARAT)?
For people using this, the new feature makes digital payments more private. This is especially good if several people use the same device at home, or if you’re buying things you don’t want others to easily see.
For the payments ecosystem in India(BHARAT), the feature reflects a maturation of user expectations: beyond “Did the payment go through?” to “How do I want my payment history to appear?” As Paytm continues to compete with other UPI players, selectively differentiating via privacy-and-usability features may increasingly become a strategic lever.
Time will tell whether competitors replicate similar controls, but for now Paytm users have a fresh way to manage and personalise how their payment history is surfaced and viewed.
