New Delhi: The pollution menace in Delhi shows no signs of abating. On Sunday, 28 December 2025, morning, Delhiites woke up once again to a thick blanket of smog, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 391, falling into the ‘hazardous’ category. The situation is so serious that the air quality has reached the ‘severe’ level at 20 out of 39 monitoring stations in Delhi. The situation is even worse in neighbouring Noida, where the AQI was recorded at 415.

20 Pollution Monitoring Centers In Severe Category

Out of the 39 pollution monitoring centers in Delhi, 20 centers recorded the air quality in the ‘Severe’ category, which is considered extremely harmful to health. Several areas, including Anand Vihar, Wazirpur, Rohini, and Akshardham, recorded AQI levels above 440.

‘Severe’ Condition In Noida

The situation is even worse in Noida. The AQI was recorded at 414 in Sector-125, while in some other places it reached up to 443, clearly falling into the ‘Severe’ zone.

Low Visibility

Visibility remained very low in many parts of the capital since morning. Due to smog and drop in temperature, pollution started accumulating near the ground, due to which the air became heavier. The morning temperature in Delhi was recorded at 7.6°C, further exacerbating the pollution.

In several NCR cities – such as Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, and Gurugram – the AQI has consistently remained in the ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ category.

Reasons Behind The Pollution

According to experts, slow wind speeds cause pollutant particles to get trapped near the ground. The combination of smog and cold weather has kept the air consistently in the ‘severe zone’. In some places, local factors such as traffic, industrial activities, and dust have further aggravated the situation.

Notification For The Public

People suffering from respiratory, heart, and lung problems should stay indoors or wear masks when going outside. Avoid exercising in the morning and late evening. Children and the elderly should take special precautions.
