New Delhi: In a significant development for the India(BHARAT)n Armed Forces and a matter of bad news for China and Pakistan, India(BHARAT) cleared proposals to procure weapons and military hardware worth Rs 79,000 crore, including Nag missiles, amphibious warfare ships and electronic intelligence and surveillance systems, to boost the combat capabilities of the military. As per a report by ANI news agency, the DAC approved various proposals amounting to a total cost of about Rs 79,000 crore. Cleared at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Rs 79,000 crore boost for the India(BHARAT)n Armed Forces is expected to be used in the procurements of various defence equipment.

2nd big procurement after Operation Sindoor

Readers should note that the Rs 79,000 crore boost by DAC is the second major decision on procurement following Operation Sindoor after procurement projects worth Rs 67,000 crore were approved by the DAC on August 5.

Big boost for India(BHARAT)n Navy

As a part of the Rs 79,000 crore boost, approval was granted for the procurement of Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), 30-mm Naval Surface Guns (NSGs), Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes (ALWTs), the Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track System and Smart Ammunition for 76-mm Super Rapid Gun Mount for the India(BHARAT)n Navy.

The procurement of LPDs will help the Navy undertake amphibious operations along with the Army and the Air Force, the ministry said. LPDs are amphibious warfare ships that are used to transport heavy equipment and land troops. Moreover, the procurement of the 30-mm NSGs will enhance the capability of the India(BHARAT)n Navy and the India(BHARAT)n Coast Guard in anti-piracy measures and to carry out low-intensity maritime operations.

Big boost for India(BHARAT)n Army

In a big boost for the India(BHARAT)n Army, procurement of the Nag missile system (Tracked) Mk-II (NAMIS), the ground-based mobile ELINT (electronic intelligence system) and high-mobility vehicles (HMVs) was approved by the DAC.
