At a time when the LGBTQIA+ community has been weaving threads of vibrant creativity along with unapologetic self-expression, Saisha Shinde is someone who deserves all the praise. She has not only become India’s first transgender fashion designer but has also captivated the industry with her personal style. Formerly known as Swapnil Shinde, Saisha came out as a transwoman in January 2021 and opened up about body feminisation surgery at the age of 40. While the popular fashion designer has been inspiring many to follow their hearts, she recently shared Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s reaction to her transition.
Aishwarya Rai’s reaction to Saisha Shinde’s transition
In a conversation with Tisca Chopra, Saisha, while recalling the time when she had not acknowledged her transition to the world, said that it was during one of her fittings with Aishwarya Rai when the actress got to know about it.
“It had not come out in the papers. It was only my close-knit friends in the industry who knew about it and I had fittings with Aishwarya. So I made sure I told her manager that get ready, it’s not Swapnil who is going to come, it is Saisha who is going to come. Make sure that ma’am is okay, everyone’s okay, because I don’t want to shock anyone,” she recalled telling Aishwarya’s manager.
Saisha went on to share her wonderful experience as Aishwarya made sure to use the right pronouns and even the correct name in the very first place. Not just that, Aishwarya, while introducing her daughter Aaradhya to her, did it in a very respectful manner.
“When I went for the fittings, again, Aishwarya being Aishwarya, she made sure she called me Saisha at every point, and she was calling me the right pronoun every time. Her daughter came in, and she introduced me to her daughter as Saisha,” the designer shared.
Besides this, Saisha also shed light on how she embraced her real self and announced her transformation to the world. She also noted that she believed that the brilliant women she had worked with would accept her.
