Sambhal on HIGH ALERT: Forces deployed as graveyard measurement near Jama Masjid begins
In Sambhal authorities have launched a massive operation to conduct a survey of the cemetery land near Jama Masjid following allegations of illegal construction on eight bighas.
Sambhal: Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district has been put on high alert as the measurement of an eight-bigha graveyard located near the Jama Masjid began on Tuesday. A heavy police force has been deployed to control the law and order situation in the district, news agency IANS reported.
Revenue department officials have been instructed to measure the land to determine if encroachment has occurred. Preliminary reports suggests that some plots of the cemetery may have been occupied by people unlawfully.
If the allegations are confirmed, the Uttar Pradesh government will take strict legal action against the accused persons.
Administrative preparations for the survey of the land located opposite the Harihar Temple, have been completed.
The exercise comes after complaints that around 20 to 25 shops and houses were illegally built on the cemetery land.
Citing the sensitive nature of the issue, forces have been placed on high alert. Authorities have restricted the entry into the cemetery.
Over 500 police personnel along with Rapid Action Force are maintaining vigilance in the area.
