New Delhi: Muslim countries are getting angry after the aggressive increase in Israel’s military operations in Gaza. On Monday, 25 August, an emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In this meeting, Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, strongly condemned Israel. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called Israel’s operation a threat to regional and global security as he mentioned Israel’s recent plan to occupy the Gaza City.
Saudi Arabia livid over the Greater Israel plan
The Saudi Foreign Minister called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and urged the global leaders to end Israeli occupation. Prince Faisal also condemned Israeli leaders’ comments to create ‘Greater Israel’. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. The minister said that more countries are joining Saudi Arabia’s initiative to recognize the Palestinian state. He urged countries that do not condemn Israel’s aggression to reconsider their stance.
Pakistan also derides Israel
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also condemned Israel’s fiery rhetoric in his statement in the same session. Dar warned that Gaza has become a graveyard for both innocent lives and international law. In a meeting held in Jeddah, Dar described the Israeli cabinet plan of full military control over Gaza as an attempt to merge and a direct threat to Arab and regional security.
Dar appealed to the OIC to unite and take concrete steps instead of rhetoric. The Pakistani Foreign Minister said, Gaza has suffered indiscriminate bombing, blockade, forced displacement and starvation in the Israeli attack, in which more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed, most of whom are women and children.
