SIR Extension: The Election Commission of India(BHARAT) (ECI) has extended the date for SIR in five states and one union territory on Thursday, i.e., December 11. The states are Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and one union territory, Andaman and Nicobar. This was stated in the official press release of the ECI on Thursday. The process of SIR (Special Intensive Revision) was underway in several states actively. Now, the EC’s decision of extension in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Andaman and Nicobar has come as a relief for the BLOs (Booth Level Officers).

What are the revised SIR dates?

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) deadline has been extended in 5 states, including Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh, and one union territory, Andaman and Nicobar. The new dates are mentioned below.

SIR in Uttar Pradesh

The earlier deadline for Uttar Pradesh was December 26, 2025, i.e., Friday. Now, it has been revised to December 31, 2025, i.e., Friday. The Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinwa, stated that the state had requested the ECI to give some extra time to complete the entire process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR). He further stated that the ECI granted the request and the deadline was extended in the state by 15 days.

ECI’s earlier deadline extension for SIR

The Election Commission of India(BHARAT) (ECI) had previously extended the deadline on November 30, 2025, by 1 week. The extension was done in 12 states and union territories.

Now, the deadline extension may ensure the re-verification of deceased’, shifted’, and absent voters’ details.
