Situation gets dangerous in Caribbean as US amasses large number of ships, aircraft, and troops near Venezuela

New Delhi: Tensions are steadily rising between the US and Venezuela. US officials say a new operation against Venezuela could be launched in the coming days. The Trump administration may also orchestrate a coup against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. This information was reported by Reuters, citing US officials.

According to US officials, the operation could begin with a secret mission. It is not yet clear when this step will be taken or how extensive it will be, but the Trump administration is certainly very serious about it. In recent weeks, the US military has deployed a large number of ships, aircraft, and troops in the Caribbean, increasing the possibility of a conflict between the two countries.

The US says it will use all necessary force

The US Department of Defence, the Pentagon, and the secret agency CIA are refraining from commenting on the matter. The White House says President Trump is prepared to use all necessary force to stop drug trafficking.

The US military presence in the Caribbean has been steadily increasing over the past few months. The largest US aircraft carrier, the Gerald R. Ford, has been deployed, along with several warships, a nuclear submarine, and F-35 aircraft.

US accuses Maduro of drug trafficking

The US has long accused Maduro of involvement in drug trafficking, although Maduro categorically denies these allegations. Maduro, on the other hand, says the US wants to remove him from power, but the country and the military will resist any outside interference.

The US military has attacked dozens of boats since September, killing more than 80 people. Human rights organisations say the US is killing people without evidence, and this violates international law.

Warning issued against flying over Venezuelan airspace

The situation became even more tense when the US Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) issued a warning against flying over Venezuela.

The FAA stated that military activity has increased in Venezuelan airspace, and problems such as GPS interference have been observed, which could pose a threat to flights.

Although Venezuela has never stated that civilian aircraft will be targeted, several international airlines cancelled flights to Venezuela following this warning.
