New Delhi: The social media platform X was down for thousands of users on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, across the globe. It was reported that an outage had affected the functions of the microblogging site and the social media platform, according to Downdetector.com. Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources, including user reports. In India(BHARAT), there were reports of an outage of the platform from more than 2,000 users as of 8:30 pm IST (India(BHARAT)n Standard Time).
According to Downdetector’s live tracking, a significant surge in complaints regarding X was observed on January 13, 2026, around 7:49 PM. At this time, the number of reports reached 1,869, while the baseline is typically around 1. The graph clearly shows a sudden, sharp red spike after minimal activity throughout the day, indicating a major outage.
Services most affected
According to Downdetector’s data, the X mobile app was the most affected during this outage. Approximately 49 per cent of users reported problems with the app. 40 per cent of the complaints were related to the website, meaning users were unable to access X properly even through their browsers. The remaining 11 per cent of users reported server connection issues, indicating that there were problems at the backend level as well.
What problems did users experience?
Many users reported that the app was taking a long time to load or wasn’t opening at all. Some users’ timelines weren’t loading, while others were unable to post or send messages. The situation was similar on the website, with complaints of login errors and pages not loading. This outage was also observed in the United States, where over 24,000 reports were registered around 8 PM.
No official statement from the company
As of now, X has not issued any official statement regarding this outage. However, the data displayed on Downdetector and the large number of user complaints clearly indicate that the problem was widespread. Typically, in such cases, the service resolves itself after some time.
