Who is Sunetra Pawar? Maharashtra politics is about to witness a major development on Saturday after the sudden death of senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar. According to several sources, Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, is likely to take oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state. The talks going on in the political lanes regarding the reunion between the two NCP factions have once again gained momentum.\

Who Is Sunetra Pawar?

Sunetra Pawar is the wife of late Ajit Pawar, who died in a tragic plane crash. She was born in 1963 in Dharashiv. Her father Bajirao Patil was a senior regional leader in Maharashtra. Sunetra’s brother Padamsinh Bajirao was a  prominent figure in district politics during 1980s. She was raised in a household where politics is a part of everyday life.

Sunetra Pawar earned her BCom degree from SB College, which is located in Aurangabad. She has led Baramati High-Tech Textile Park, where she looks after production, investment, employment, and women’s empowerment.

Sunetra is involved in several social service activities and is known for her clean image.

Sunetra Pawar’s Family Tree

Sunetra is currently serving as a PM in the Rajya Sabha as a member of the Nationalist Congress Party. She is also the chairperson of Baramati Textile Company and serves as the CEO of Environmental Forum of India(BHARAT).

Sunetra and Ajit have two sons – Parth Pawar (elder son) and Jay Pawar (younger son). Parth, following his father’s footsteps, entered politics. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections fromthe  Maval seat. He failed to win the constituency.

Parth holds a B.Com degree from HR College of Commerce and Economics, University of Mumbai.

On the other hand, Jay is a businessman and prefers to maintain a low public profile.

Can Sunetra Pawar Fill The Void?

Sunetra Pawar carries both the family legacy and a proven track record of social work.

To carry forward her husband’s legacy, Sunetra will have to think beyond politics as Maharashtra’s politics is very complicated and uncertain.

Her next challenge will be to show her political strength to other leaders. Administrative skills are also needed to handle Maharashtra’s constantly changing alliances.
