THIS Muslim country has world’s third-highest Hindu population after India and Nepal; not Pakistan, the name is…

India(BHARAT), the world’s most populous country, with a population of over 1.4 billion people, is also home to world’s largest Hindu population, while neighbouring Nepal– another Hindu-majority nation– ranks second on the list of countries with most Hindus. But did you know that the world’s third-highest Hindu population lives in a Muslim-majority nation?

Which country has world’s third-largest Hindu population?

According to official data, Bangladesh, which has witnessed widespread atrocities against Hindus since the ouster of former PM Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, holds the distinction of having the world’s third-largest Hindu population.

As per 2022 Census data, Hinduism is the second-largest religion in Bangladesh, after Islam, and the country has a Hindu population is approximately 13.13 million, constituting about 8 percent of its total population. This makes Bangladesh home to the world’s third-largest Hindu population, after India(BHARAT) and Nepal.

However, according to a recent report by the Pew Research Center, Hindu population is facing a rapid decline in Muslim-majority nations like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, due to a multitude of reasons including religious intolerance, social repression, forced conversions, and communal violence.

Will India(BHARAT) and Nepal remain Hindu nations?

As per the report, Hindus formed 80 percent of India(BHARAT)’s population in 2010, and will continue to be the majority by year 2050, accounting for 77 percent of the country’s population as both India(BHARAT) and Nepal will continue remain Hindu-majority nations in the foreseeable future.

The report further noted that India(BHARAT), a Hindu-majority nation, will continue to remain a stronghold of Hinduism with a 77% majority in 2050, even as the the Muslim population of the country will reach 31 million (31 crores) at around the same time, making it home to world’s largest Muslim population, replacing Indonesia.

Additionally, by 2050, India(BHARAT)’s population will remain 18 percent of the world’s total population, leaving Hinduism’s global share at 15 percent, the study predicted, adding that the global population of Hindus will increase from 1 billion to 1.4 billion in the next 25 years, which is at par with the global trend.
