From Sanjay Leela Bhansali to Mani Ratnam, India(BHARAT)n cinema has some virtuoso directors. These gurus have given numerous hits which, despite being released years ago, are still fan favourites. One such director was born in the small town of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. While growing up, little did this boy know that one day he would create a big life for himself and people across the country would know his name. His father, Mansoor Ali, was a contractor who worked in irrigation, and as a child, he would sometimes accompany him. When he moved to Delhi, his interest in filmmaking intrigued him to pursue the line. After graduation, he moved to Mumbai and did a diploma course at the Xavier Institute of Communication.

From directing TV programs to directing movies like Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal and the dramas Rockstar, Highway, Tamasha, Jab Harry Met Sejal, and Amar Singh Chamkila, the man is none other than Imtiaz Ali.
Imtiaz’s passion for filmmaking brought him to Mumbai, where he began his career directing TV programs including Kurukshetra for Zee TV and Imtihaan for Doordarshan.
He later transitioned to Bollywood and, in 2005, made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy Socha Na Tha, featuring Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia.

Imtiaz Ali revealed on Ranveer Allahabadia’s podcast that he read the Rigveda and the Bhagavad Gita as a child. He stated that the Bhagavad Gita remains the most important book in his life. He still keeps it on his side table. He explained that he bought the book when he was in sixth grade and would read a few pages of it every day.

Coming to his personal life, Imtiaz married Laila Majnu producer Preeti. The couple has a daughter, Ida Ali, who is also a writer-director and has made several short films. The couple separated in 2012, but reports later emerged that they were still together.
