Do you know this actress is the daughter of a superstar, but she left the industry after 3 films? Find her name inside.
In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, we often see the stars following in the footsteps of their parents in order to take the legacy forward and attain the same spotlight. However, while some can maintain the mark that their parents started, others fade away quietly. One such similar story is of a star kid who is the daughter of a superstar, but despite coming from a celebrated film family, her Bollywood journey didn’t turn out as expected. The actress that we are talking about is none other than Athiya Shetty, the daughter of Suniel Shetty.
Athiya’s Grand Debut in 2015
Athiya Shetty completed her early education at the American School of Bombay and later worked on her acting skills at the New York Film Academy. At just 23, she made her grand Bollywood debut in 2015 with the film Hero, opposite Sooraj Pancholi. Produced by Salman Khan and directed by Nikhil Advani, the movie had high expectations, especially since it was a launchpad for two star kids.
However, despite the hype, Hero underperformed at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs 32 crores, it barely earned Rs 33 crores, making it an average performer. Critics noted that while Athiya had screen presence, the audience could not resonate with the story.
Athiya’s Back-to-Back Flops
After Hero, Athiya appeared in Mubarakan in 2017, a comedy-drama featuring big names like Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor. Unfortunately, even this ensemble cast couldn’t save the film from disappointing audiences.
Her next release was in 2019, Motichoor Chaknachoor. In this film, she worked alongside acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Despite being a fresh and unconventional pairing, the film also failed to make an impact at the box office. Besides these, Athiya made a brief special appearance in the song Tere Naal Nachna from Nawabzaade, but by then, her interest in pursuing films had started to wane.
Away from the Limelight
In an interview, Suniel Shetty revealed that his daughter received several offers after Motichoor Chaknachoor, but she showed little enthusiasm for continuing in Bollywood. Disheartened by the industry’s unpredictability, Athiya decided to distance herself from films.
Today, she leads a content, peaceful life away from the constant glare of stardom, happily married and focused on personal growth.
