Mahesh Bhatt Married Lauren Bright at the Age of 20

Mahesh Bhatt is one of Bollywood’s most celebrated filmmakers, having made numerous outstanding films. Known for films like Aashiqui, Saaransh, Jism, and Sadak, Mahesh Bhatt’s personal life has also always been in the headlines. While his outspoken and controversial statements sparked numerous controversies, his marriage to Alia Bhatt’s mother, Soni Razdan, was also deeply controversial.

Even before Soni Razdan, Mahesh Bhatt’s name was linked to several actresses, despite his already being married. Mahesh Bhatt was 20 years old when he married Lauren Bright, also known as Kiran Bhatt. He once loved Lauren so much that he wrote her letters in blood, but their relationship ended tragically.

Lauren Lived in an Orphanage

Mahesh Bhatt had told his daughter Pooja Bhatt that his wife Lauren, also known as Kiran Bhatt, lived in an orphanage. Talking about his first meeting with Lauren, he had said, “I was 16 then and she was 14. She lived in an orphanage. Her mother didn’t have enough money to send her to a boarding school, so she lived there. One day, I saw her; she was standing at the gate of Bombay Scottish. She was very beautiful and looked very attractive at first sight. But, I felt that I was not worthy of her. That’s why it took a long time to even meet her for the first time.”

Meeting Through a Tailor

Mahesh Bhatt further says, “One day I gathered courage and went to him and told him about myself. I remember, in our first meeting, I offered him supari (a contract). I was very impressed after meeting him. I arranged a meeting with him through a tailor who stitched school uniforms. I requested him to deliver my letter to Lauren. But, it was very risky because if he got caught, he would lose his job. But, he was a very good person. He gave my letters to Lauren. I had written those letters in blood and the reply also came in a letter.”

Love Story Shown in Aashiqui

It is said that Mahesh Bhatt’s film Aashiqui also depicts his and Lauren’s love story. Mahesh Bhatt married Lauren at the age of 20. They had two children. However, their happy married life gradually soured. Mahesh Bhatt’s name became linked with actress Parveen Babi. One after another, Mahesh Bhatt’s films flopped, and the day came when Mahesh Bhatt left Lauren for Parveen.

Although he returned to Lauren after a while, Soni Razdan entered his life shortly thereafter, and the two married in 1986. However, Mahesh Bhatt never divorced Lauren. To marry Soni Razdan, he converted to Islam and married Sakina, also known as Ashraf. Lauren passed away in 2003 at the age of 66. The cause of her death has never been revealed.
